We’re counting down the days to Christmas and Stanly County is bustling with holiday activities. This weekend there are Christmas parades throughout the county, a holiday craft show, holiday events at the local vineyards, and a downtown Albemarle Christmas Open House. Coming up we have a holiday tour of homes, the Albemarle Christmas Parade and a beautiful display of 50 or more Christmas trees to inspire you. There’s every reason to enjoy this special time of the year right here in Stanly County.
Falling Rivers Gallery on West Main Street in downtown Albemarle is presenting its annual holiday craft show, ‘From our Hands’. The show runs through December 31st and this year features 18 displays that include wood, textiles, jewelry, wall art and more. Check out the Gallery website for a list of the participants. And don’t forget to check the main Gallery for the work of 25 local artists and their permanent exhibits. For last minute shoppers, the Gallery will open on Monday, December 23rd and Tuesday, December 24th from 10am to 5pm.
On Wednesday at 5 pm the Norwood Christmas Parade begins in downtown Norwood followed by the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree at the Norwood Town Hall. Santa Clause will also be there to see the children.
Thursday at 7 pm brings the Oakboro Christmas Parade to town. The fun starts at 5:30 pm with food, music, train rides, visits with Santa and a host of other activities.
Friday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm brings the Albemarle Christmas Open House to downtown Albemarle. The theme this year is ‘giving back’. Stores will be open with special exhibits, some to promote the store’s favorite charity, and there’ll be music and food and of course, Santa.
The Stanly County Winter Market will be open this Saturday from 10 am until 1 pm at Market Station in downtown Albemarle. Load up on all those good winter vegetables and other goodies for your holiday dining.
Also on Saturday from noon until 6 pm Rocky River Vineyards presents its Christmas Open House. Admission is free. There’ll be wine tastings, a fish fry by Jake’s Good Eats, live music by Dan Vilco, local artisans and of course Santa.
Saturday and Sunday brings a Wine and Chocolate Weekend at Dennis Vineyards. The event is from 3 pm to 5 pm and features… what else?…wine and chocolate, a delightful combination.
Sunday at 2 pm is the time for the Palestine Christmas Parade. Don’t miss this BIG parade in this little community. It will put you right in the holiday spirit.
Save the dates: the Albemarle Tour of Homes takes place on December 13, the Albemarle Christmas Parade is on December 14 and Hospice of Stanly and Uwharrie will have its Festival of Trees at Stanly Commons with more than 50 trees on display.
Stanly County is in the holiday spirit this weekend. Enjoy.
